Robert Williamson III has always been an overachiever. After earning BBAs with honors in both Finance and Real Estate, Robert put his demonstrated skills to work immediately. While he experienced great successes in various business ventures over the years, he had yet to devote himself to his true passion: playing poker.
Robert played as an amateur for many years, but it was around the beginning of 2000 that he took up poker full time – and with good reason. He took 3rd place in the 1999 WSOP $2.5K Pot-Limit Omaha event for better than $43K and continued to consistently post respectable tournament results over the next couple of years. While his successes were regularly marked by final tables, it was at the 2002 WSOP that he firmly established himself as a professional.
After cashing in two earlier events, including the final table at the $1.5K Razz event, Robert went on to earn his most notable victory to date. He faced a tough field of over 100 competitors to come out on top and win the $5K Pot-Limit Omaha event. For his efforts, he won more than $200K – and his first WSOP Bracelet.
Since that time, Robert has continued to build upon his success as a professional poker player both at and away from the table. In addition to regular cash finishes in tournament events, he was the inaugural recipient of the Brian Saltus Award in 2003, for "poker citizenship, dignity, and class". Accordingly, Robert’s frequently referred to as "The Gentleman of Poker".
Given his track record at the table, including two more cash finishes at this year’s WSOP, Robert’s demonstrated that he’s truly a consummate professional. If you want to see him in action, look for Robert playing online at Full Tilt Poker.
